Table tennis builds hand-eye coordination, quick reflexes and footwork, and suits children who like a fast, low-contact sport played in a small space. Beginners start with grip, stance and basic forehand and backhand strokes with a coach before moving on to rallies, serving and simple match play. Because points are short, sessions hold a child's attention even if they are new to racket sports, and the game can be played competitively or just for fun. Many children start at primary-school age; at this academy the kids group programme takes children from 6, and players who progress can go on to league and tournament play.
