Children from age 5, and adults too, can learn piano, keyboard, guitar, ukulele, violin or drums, or take vocal lessons in Carnatic and Hindustani styles. Classes keep a limited number of students so each child gets close attention, and the school says its teachers are Trinity Grade 8 certified and hold diplomas in their subjects. Scheduling is flexible, with weekend classes available, and the doors are open every day from 3pm to 9pm. New students can take a free trial class before enrolling. The activity

Music Lessons, explained

Music lessons teach a child an instrument or their voice step by step: reading music, technique, ear training and a growing set of pieces to play. Along the way they build focus, patience, coordination and the confidence to perform in front of others. Many children start around five or six on piano or keyboard, where notes are easy to see, and move to guitar, violin or drums as their hands grow and their attention span lengthens. Singing can start young too. Some schools prepare students for graded exams, such as Trinity College London's Grades 1 to 8, which give parents an outside measure of progress alongside regular lessons and the fun of learning pieces they love.

Who it's for

Children aged 5 and above, right through to adults. Beginners through to intermediate and advanced students, on piano, keyboard, guitar, ukulele, violin, drums or vocals (Carnatic and Hindustani). Good for children working towards Trinity College London grade exams, or those who just want to play.

What to expect

Start with the free trial class, offered to new students before they enrol. Classes keep a limited number of students so each child gets focused attention, and teachers blend music theory with practical, hands-on playing, including reading music notation. Once enrolled, children follow either the Music Examination Program (Trinity College London Grades 1-8) or the freestyle Music Performance Program. Lesson length, fees and what to bring are not published on the site - ask the provider when booking the trial.
