About Compassionate Minds for Psychological and Behavioral Therapy
Compassionate Minds is a psychology practice at 205 Detroit House in Motor City, licensed by the Dubai Health Authority and the Community Development Authority. It works with children, teenagers, families and adults, so it is a clinic rather than an activity club. For young people, the team offers therapy for worries such as anxiety, exam stress, friendship difficulties, bullying, low mood, perfectionism and emotional regulation, as well as support around neurodiverse experiences and family changes. Family therapy and parent support sit alongside, including one-to-one guidance and workshops built on Compassion Focused Parenting and the Triple P Positive Parenting Programme. The clinic also runs psychoeducational assessments looking at learning, attention, emotional wellbeing, behaviour and social communication. Children's services are led by Dr Amy Bailey, a clinical psychologist, and the team includes a child therapist trained in therapeutic play who works with children from age three. It is appointment-only, Monday to Friday.
The activity
Creative & Play Therapy, explained
Child therapy is not a class or a hobby: it is one-to-one or family work with a qualified psychologist or therapist, usually after a parent notices a worry such as anxiety, low mood, friendship trouble or big feelings that are hard to manage. With younger children, therapists often use play, drawing and games, because play is how small children show and work through what they feel. Older children and teenagers usually talk more, often using approaches like CBT. Parents are normally involved from the first meeting, sharing background and learning ways to help at home. Therapeutic play can start from around age three, and the right fit depends on the child and the concern.
Who it's for
Children, teenagers and their families (the clinic also sees adults and couples). Its child therapist, trained in therapeutic play, works with children aged 3+; other psychologists on the team work with children, adolescents and families. Support covers neurodiverse experiences as well as everyday worries. No overall age limits are published, so ask the provider which clinician suits your child.
What to expect
Contact the clinic by phone, WhatsApp or email to book; it is by appointment only. For an assessment, the clinic sets out the steps: an initial enquiry and registration forms, then a parents' meeting to share concerns and background, school contact with parental consent, the child's assessment using interactive cognitive, academic and emotional measures (with optional classroom observation), and finally a written report with a parent feedback meeting. Fees, session lengths and insurance are not published, so ask the provider. The clinic is not a crisis service: in an emergency, call 999 or 998.
