About CF Tennis Academy
CF Tennis Academy was founded in Dubai in 1997 by coach Clark Francis and is affiliated with Tennis Emirates. Its address is the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Stadium in Al Garhoud, where Junior Matchplay runs every Friday from 8:30 to 10:30am - one-day singles competitions for match practice. Most coaching runs at school venues across Dubai and Abu Dhabi, so check which venue your child's programme is at. For young beginners the entry point is Red Intro Tennis, a mini-tennis programme for ages 4-8 with Red, Orange and Green stages and regular rewards, listed at Dubai British School Jumeirah Park, GEMS Wellington International School and Raha International School Gardens. Older juniors can join the Sunday morning programme (Junior Club Morning on the price list, Junior Development Program on its programme page), grouped by colour: Red (8 and under), Orange (9 and under), Green (10 and under) and Yellow (11 and above). There are also tennis camps for ages 8-16, private and semi-private lessons and ball-kid training.
The activity
Tennis, explained
Tennis for kids builds hand-eye coordination, footwork and match awareness through hitting a ball back and forth over a net, alone or against an opponent. Younger children usually start with mini tennis on a smaller court with a softer, slower ball so they can rally sooner, then move onto a full court and yellow ball as their strength and control grow. Coaches build technique (grip, swing, serve) plus fitness, and group sessions add the social side - taking turns, cheering teammates, learning to win and lose a point. Most academies group children by age and level rather than by school year, so a five-year-old and an eight-year-old might be in different groups based on ability. Children often start around 4.
Who it's for
Red Intro Tennis is for ages 4-8. The Sunday morning programme (Junior Club Morning / Junior Development Program) groups players Red (8 and under), Orange (9 and under), Green (10 and under) and Yellow (11 and above). Tennis camps are for ages 8-16, and Friday Junior Matchplay is match practice for juniors. The academy's about page describes a Special Needs tennis programme launched in 2016 - ask whether it runs this term.
What to expect
Red Intro Tennis sessions last 60 minutes, and the academy says children learn in stages with exercises and regular rewards. It is sold by term (16, 15 or 10 weeks) at once or twice a week, or 110 AED per session on the programme page. At the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Stadium, Junior Matchplay runs every Friday from 8:30 to 10:30am at 85 AED - singles matches in a competition setting rather than a lesson. The Sunday morning programme runs from 7:30 to 9:30am at Abu Dhabi Cricket & Sports Hub, Uptown International School and Harrow International School. The website doesn't publish a trial class or a kit list - ask the provider before booking a paid term.
