The activity

Tennis, explained

Tennis coaching for children builds hand-eye coordination, footwork and racket skills. Young beginners usually start with mini-tennis: a smaller court, a lower net and softer, slower balls that make rallies possible from the first lesson. As technique and strength grow, children move up to bigger courts and faster balls. Group lessons cover the basic strokes, serving and simple games, while private lessons let a coach work on one child's grip, footwork and match awareness. Many children start somewhere around four to six, and keen players can go on to squads and match play. Ask each coach which ages and levels they take.

Who it's for

Children aged 4 to 16, through the Junior Tennis Academy at the Dubai Marina courts (Instagram post, 22 September 2026). Levels and group sizes aren't published, so ask which group fits your child. Grown-ups can play too: in March 2026 the academy advertised Pink Squad, a women's group at Dubai Marina.

What to expect

Junior sessions take place on the academy's blue outdoor courts at the One&Only Royal Mirage, lined with palm trees and with the Marina skyline behind. The academy hasn't published what a first junior session involves, how children are grouped by age or level, or whether rackets and balls are provided, so ask about all three when you register. It also takes bookings for sessions with individual coaches on the same WhatsApp number, so ask whether one-to-one lessons are open to children too. There is no published trial policy for the junior academy; ask whether your child can try a session before signing up for the season.
