Alexander Ostrovsky Academy runs its Minitennis 10s programme at The Ripe Market Academy Park on Sheikh Zayed Road in Al Sufouh. It follows the ITF Tennis 10s format: red, orange and green balls on smaller courts, so young players can rally from the start, with first tournaments in the very first year. There are three levels: red ball for ages 4-6, orange ball for 7-8 and green ball for 8-10. A Junior Group for ages 11-15 follows, and groups are capped at six children. Kids' group sessions run Monday to Thursday in the late afternoon, between 4PM and 7PM. The head coach, Frantisek Polyak, is a seven-time champion of Slovakia with a career-high ATP ranking of 530. Assistant head coach Georgy Salbiev's students have won Tennis Europe Super U14 events. Azaliia Baccora heads the Minitennis 10s programme. The academy is rated 4.5 on Google from 27 reviews.

The activity

Tennis, explained

Tennis for young children usually starts with mini-tennis: smaller courts, lower nets and softer, slower-bouncing balls (red, then orange, then green) so kids can rally and build technique before moving to a full-size court and yellow ball. Sessions build hand-eye coordination, footwork, balance and racket control, and are run in small groups sorted by age and level. Many programmes add friendly match play and simple tournaments early on, so children get used to scoring and competing in a relaxed way. It suits kids who enjoy an individual sport with a social, small-group feel, and it is a game they can keep playing for life.

Who it's for

Minitennis 10s: red ball for ages 4-6, orange ball for ages 7-8 and green ball for ages 8-10. Junior Group for ages 11-15. Groups are limited to six children. The academy also coaches adults (16 and over) in private and group sessions.

What to expect

Kids' group sessions last one hour, with up to six children per group, and run on weekday afternoons from Monday to Thursday. You can pay for a single session (AED 210 for red ball, AED 220 for older groups) or for a term at twice or three times a week. Term 1 runs 15 September to 14 December 2026, Term 2 January to March 2027 and Term 3 April to May 2027. A place in a group is only reserved once you've paid. Missed sessions aren't refunded, but if your child is sick or injured the academy will try to offer a make-up lesson in the same term. No trial offer is published, so ask the provider.
