The activity
Martial Arts, explained
Karate is a striking martial art built on set movement patterns (kata), partner drills and sparring, with coloured belts awarded at gradings so children can see their progress. Lessons usually start with a warm-up, then basic stances, blocks, punches and kicks, before kata practice or controlled partner work. It builds coordination, balance, focus and self-discipline, and teaches children to follow instructions and show respect to coaches and classmates. Many clubs take children from around four or five, often in separate classes from teens and adults. Beginners usually train in comfortable sportswear until they buy a karate uniform (gi).
Who it's for
Children and teens: the club says it is part of Karate Kid Martial Arts, which says it specialises in helping children and teens, and its Instagram has an "Al Jadeed Kids" highlight. The bio also lists yoga, self-defence and weight-loss training. Age bands and which classes suit which ages aren't published - ask the provider.
What to expect
Karate Kid, which the club says it is part of, describes karate training built on kihon (basics such as stances, punches, kicks and blocks), kata (set sequences of movements against imaginary opponents) and kumite (sparring with a partner). Its Instagram shows examinations, so expect belt gradings along the way. Class times, class length, group sizes and what to wear aren't published - ask the provider.
