About Al Areen Academy
Al Areen Academy is a martial arts and strength school in a warehouse in Al Quoz Industrial Area 3, teaching Muay Thai, Eskrima (a Filipino stick and blade art) and StrongFirst kettlebell strength. For children it runs Kids Muay Thai for ages 6-11 and Teens Muay Thai for ages 12-17, with Eskrima open to teens 13 and over by coach approval. Every new student starts with a 14-day Authentic Trial for AED 250, then moves into Foundations and, when the coach judges them ready, Practitioners - both AED 650 a month. Muay Thai follows the Master Toddy 12-grade syllabus, with certificates issued from Bangkok for students who pass gradings. The academy describes itself as "not a commercial gym": expect structure, etiquette and firm standards, with no wild sparring for kids.
The activity
Martial Arts, explained
Muay Thai is the stand-up striking art of Thailand, using fists, elbows, knees and shins, plus clinch work. For children it is taught through stance, guard and footwork, pad work and coordination drills, with contact kept technical and supervised rather than free fighting. It builds balance, fitness and body awareness, and just as much focus, self-control and respect, because classes follow set etiquette and routines. Eskrima is a Filipino martial art built around stick, knife and empty-hand movement, timing and distance, usually taught through partner drills. Kids' Muay Thai commonly starts from around primary-school age. At Al Areen it starts at 6.
Who it's for
Kids Muay Thai is for ages 6-11 and Teens Muay Thai for ages 12-17; beginners start in Foundations and move up to Practitioners when the coach judges them ready. Teens Eskrima is for ages 13+ and is coach-approved only, after the trial and an orientation assessment. Competition is optional for teens. The site doesn't say whether kids' classes are mixed boys and girls - ask the provider.
What to expect
Every new student, children included, starts with the 14-day Authentic Trial (AED 250). Your child trains in real Foundations-level classes - kids' Foundations are Monday and Wednesday at 6pm - meets the coaches and is assessed for the right pathway. Sessions focus on stance, guard and footwork, basic punches, kicks and knees, safe pad work and Thai etiquette, at a slower, step-by-step pace with no hard sparring. At the end, the coach recommends Foundations, Practitioners or another option. The academy says WhatsApp is the fastest way to book. Ask the provider what to wear and bring.
