About Rackets Academy

Rackets Academy runs tennis (and some padel) at four branches in Dubai: Al Barsha, Dubai American Academy (DAA), Dubai Hills and Motor City. The Al Barsha branch has 4 shaded courts, and its page lists a Junior Development Programme (JDP), a Mini Challenger Tour and Adult Social Nights. The JDP is split into colour stages by age on the academy's programme page: Red for 4-6, Orange for 6-8, Green for 9-11 and Yellow for recreational teenagers aged 13-18, in small groups of about four. Dubai Hills lists a Performance Program and Elite Program, and Motor City lists elite training, tournaments and camps, so ask which programmes your branch runs. Group classes are paid by the term; the academy's published rate card covers 2025-26, so ask for the 2026-27 fees. In school holidays there are camps too, with a half-term camp on 19-23 October 2026 at Al Barsha (ages 4-9) and Dubai Hills (ages 4-12). New players start with a short on-court assessment so coaches can place them in the right group. Session times are not published, so message the academy on WhatsApp to find a slot.

The activity

Tennis, explained

Junior tennis teaches children to track a moving ball, move their feet and control a racket, and it builds coordination, balance and patience along the way. Most programmes start small: younger children play on a shorter court with slower, softer balls, then move up through coloured-ball stages (red, then orange, then green) before reaching the full court with a standard yellow ball. Sessions usually mix games and drills on forehand, backhand and serve with rallying in small groups. Children can start as young as three, and many academies move a child up a stage once a coach judges they are ready, often at the end of a term.

Who it's for

Children and teenagers learning tennis. The Junior Development Programme runs in age stages: JDP Red (typical age 4-6), JDP Orange (6-8), JDP Green (9-11) and JDP Yellow (13-18, recreational players). The half-term camp is for ages 4-9 at Al Barsha and 4-12 at Dubai Hills. The JDP is listed on the Al Barsha page; the academy's Tennis Tots group (ages 3-4) and Performance Programme are not listed there, so ask whether they run at your branch.

What to expect

New players start with a chat about the child's age, experience and goals, then a short on-court skill assessment (15-20 minutes) so the coaches can place them in the right programme. After that you get the schedule, fees and term details. Depending on the season there may be trial sessions. JDP groups are about four children, sometimes more when assistants are on court, and sessions run 60 minutes for Red, 75 for Orange and 90 for Green and Yellow. Moving from JDP Yellow to the performance programme is agreed in a consultation with your coach. For kit and exact session times, ask the academy and say which branch you mean.
