About Oasis Skating Club

Oasis Skating Club is a figure skating club based at Dubai Ice Rink in Dubai Mall. It says it is approved by the UAE Winter Sports Federation as a figure skating club, and describes itself as a group of seven international coaches trained in all disciplines of the sport. The club offers private and group lessons at the rink, plus off-ice training for strength and flexibility, and says it welcomes skaters of all levels, from beginner to competitive. Coaching covers skating skills, jumps, spins, choreography and ice dance, and the club also offers hockey speed and edges sessions. Head coach Tim McKernan, who founded the club, is described on the site as a five-time USA national medallist in ice dance. Lesson rates are published per coach, and families join through an annual membership, which opens the door to lesson packages, club ice shows and competitions. The club is also a retailer of Jackson Ultima skates and blades.

The activity

Figure Skating, explained

Figure skating is skating on ice with blades, where children learn to glide, stop, turn and move across the rink on clean edges before building up to spins, jumps and footwork set to music. Beginners start with balance and basic skating skills, often with a coach alongside them, and progress through steadily harder elements as their confidence grows. Some skaters also try ice dance, which focuses on rhythm, footwork and skating with a partner, while others move on to choreography and performing in shows or competitions. The sport builds balance, leg strength, flexibility and body control, plus the resilience of getting straight back up after a fall. Ask a coach what age suits your child to start.

Who it's for

Skaters of all levels, from beginners to competitive skaters: the site says lessons are for all ages and does not give an age range, so ask the club whether it suits your child. The 2026 membership form is filled in by a parent or guardian for members under 18, and full membership is the level that allows domestic and international competition. Nothing on the site covers special needs; ask the club.

What to expect

The club says each skater's strengths and weaknesses are assessed first, then coaches build a customised programme, working with individuals or small groups and monitoring progress. Lessons are booked with a named coach, and the code of ethics asks skaters to arrive at the rink 20-30 minutes early, ready to skate, and to dress warmly in athletic wear with a jacket or a skating dress; helmets and knee pads are optional. Lessons cancelled with less than 24 hours' notice may be charged. The site does not mention a trial lesson, or whether rink ice time is included in the lesson price, so ask the club.
