Lab of Future is a space science and technology education company with a lab in Dubai on Sheikh Rashid Street, opposite Dubai Frame, and further centres in India. Its in-lab programmes are designed for ages 6 to 18 and cover robotics, space and astronomy, space robotics, artificial intelligence, aeromodelling, IoT, coding, cybersecurity, drones and satellite design, and the company says they are aligned with NGSS, IB and IGCSE standards. Its robotics course, Robotic Realms, has separate bands for 6-7, 7-11, 11-14 and 14-18 year olds and runs as five levels of 12 hours each, from Beginner to Mastery. The activity

Robotics, explained

Robotics teaches children to design, build and programme machines - from simple circuits and sensor-driven models to coding robots that respond to their surroundings. Kids work hands-on with kits, motors and sensors and then write the code that makes them move, so each session mixes making, testing and fixing. Along the way it builds problem-solving, logical thinking, maths in a practical setting and teamwork on group projects. No technical background is needed to begin, and many programmes start from around age six with levelled courses that grow harder as a child progresses, sometimes leading into coding, AI or drone design.

Who it's for

Children and teens aged 6 to 18. Courses are split into age bands - the robotics course, for example, has bands for 6-7, 7-11, 11-14 and 14-18 year olds - and no technical skills are needed to begin, just an interest in robotics, electronics or science. Ask which programmes currently run at the Dubai lab for your child's age.

What to expect

The robotics course is hands-on: younger children build and programme robots, steer them round obstacle courses and use IR, colour and sound sensors, working through challenges in small teams. It is taught as five levels of 12 hours each (60 hours in the lab), and the course page lists all materials and tools as provided by Lab of Future, 365 days of access to online learning resources, a certificate on completion and a performance and skills report. Ask the provider about session times, fees and whether a trial or taster is possible - these aren't on the website.
