About La Marelle

La Marelle is a French nursery and kindergarten (crèche and maternelle) in a building on Al Shaari Street, Jumeirah 3. It opened in February 2022 and is run by Atf Hamadi, who set it up. Children from 3 months up to 6 years are welcome: babies and toddlers up to 3 are on the ground floor, and the kindergarten years (Petite Section, Moyenne Section and Grande Section, called PreKG, KG1 and KG2) are upstairs. The programme follows the French Ministry of Education, with ideas from Montessori, Freinet and Dolto. French is the main language, and there is now an English stream that follows the same curriculum. Extras include a vegetable garden, a motor skills room used daily for dance, gymnastics and yoga, a library with weekly book loans, a cycling track, water play in warmer months and educational outings. It's rated 4.7 on Google from 41 reviews.

The activity

Nursery, explained

A nursery gives babies and young children structured care and early learning before primary school. The day mixes guided play, early language and number work, creative activities and physical play, with snack and rest times suited to little ones. In Dubai, nurseries follow different curricula: British EYFS, Montessori, and at a French nursery like this one, the programmes of the French Ministry of Education, with the Petite, Moyenne and Grande Section kindergarten years. Many nurseries take babies from a few months old and keep children until they move on to school at around 4 to 6, depending on the curriculum.

Who it's for

Children from 3 months to 6 years. Babies and toddlers (0 to 3) are on the ground floor. Children aged 3 to 5 are upstairs in Petite Section (PreKG), Moyenne Section (KG1) and Grande Section (KG2). Families choose the French stream or the English stream, and a child can join either one at any age. Suited to French-speaking families and to families who want their child in a French-curriculum setting.

What to expect

The core day runs 7:30am to 3:30pm Monday to Thursday and 7:30am to 11:30am on Friday, with paid aftercare until 6:00pm (Monday to Thursday) and 1:00pm (Friday). New children settle in over a dedicated adaptation week. In the first days you drop your child off for about an hour, and the stay grows as your child gets comfortable. Children choose a nap bed and put a photo on their locker, and the approach draws on the Snoezelen method. Parents pack breakfast, lunch and a snack, and children wear slippers indoors. Registrations are open. Call or WhatsApp to book a visit.
