About Kidz Palooza - Ibn Battuta Mall

Kidz Palooza is a family activity centre in Egypt Court, Ibn Battuta Mall, built around a paint-your-own ceramic studio, with a multi-level soft indoor playground, a kids' hair salon, a nail spa and a café under the same roof. In the studio, children choose a piece from the shelves, paint it with staff on hand to help and inspire, and leave it behind to be professionally glazed and kiln-fired - it's ready to collect within the week and is food safe. The shelf price of each piece covers studio time, paints, glazing and firing. Kids who'd rather paint on canvas can book a one-hour canvas painting or a step-by-step session, and there's a 1.5-hour Paint & Play combo with the playground. It's also a party venue: in-studio birthday packages (ceramic, canvas, spa and themed parties such as dinosaur, princess or superhero) need a minimum of 15 children. The venue says hours can change with private bookings, so call before a drop-in visit.

The activity

Pottery, explained

Ceramic painting (often called paint-your-own pottery) is a gentle way for kids to try pottery without a wheel or any clay skills. Children pick a ready-made, unglazed piece such as a mug, plate or little figure, then decorate it with paints however they like. The studio then glazes and kiln-fires it, so the colours come out glossy and the piece is durable enough to use. Because the skill is painting rather than shaping clay, it suits younger children and first-timers well, and older kids can get as detailed as they want. It builds fine motor control, patience and colour sense, and every child goes home with something they made. Pieces need firing, so collection is usually a few days later.

Who it's for

Families with young children through to teens. Playground drop-in rates are for children up to 12, and under-4s must be supervised by a parent or carer (no drop-offs). The venue says its ceramic parties cater for everyone from pre-schoolers to teens. Adults can paint too.

What to expect

Pick a ceramic piece from the shelves - the shelf price includes studio time, paints, glazing and kiln-firing. Sit down and paint it at your own pace; staff are there to help if your child gets stuck. Leave the finished piece with the studio, which glazes and fires it, and collect it within the week. Spend over AED 100 on ceramic painting and you get 30 minutes of free play in the soft playground. For the playground, everyone needs socks (on sale at the front counter). No trial policy is published - ask the venue.
