About Dubai Hoop School
Dubai Hoop School (DHS Sports Group) is a youth basketball school with programmes for ages 5 to 18. This listing is its Dubai Sports City venue, Dwight School Dubai, where it runs indoor training in four groups: Youth Skills Training for ages 5 to 8, Skills Training for 9 to 13, All Girls Basketball for girls aged 9 and up, and Advanced Skills Training for 14 and over. Players who want to compete can join the Advanced Player pathway, which adds the Ball Above All league. Families choose one or two sessions a week, paid per lesson for the rest of the term, and a 10% sibling discount applies when you register more than one child. The school also trains at Bloom World Academy in Al Barsha South and runs a Georgia basketball camp in April 2027 for ages 10 to 18. It was founded in 2019 by Coach Anthony Latif Washington. It is rated 4.3 on Google from 6 reviews. You can book a trial lesson online or message a coach on WhatsApp.
The activity
Basketball, explained
Basketball is a fast team sport in which two sides of five try to score by shooting a ball through a hoop just over 3 metres up, moving it by dribbling and passing. Young beginners usually start with ball handling, dribbling with either hand, simple passing and a correct shooting action, often with smaller balls and lower hoops, before moving on to footwork, defence and small-sided games. It builds coordination, agility, stamina and quick decision-making, and because every player attacks and defends, children learn to communicate and play as a team. Many clubs take children from around primary-school age and group them by age and level.
Who it's for
Boys and girls aged 5 to 18. At Dwight School Dubai the groups are Ages 5-8 Youth Skills Training, Ages 9-13 Skills Training, Ages 9+ All Girls Basketball and Ages 14+ Advanced Skills Training. The Advanced Player (training + league) package is open from age 12. The trial form asks whether your child is new to basketball, has some training or is a competitive player, so beginners are welcome.
What to expect
Start with a trial lesson: on the website you choose the venue, an age group and session time, and a preferred date, and a DHS coach gets in touch to confirm the place. The trial price is not stated, so ask when they call. Sessions at Dwight School Dubai are indoors and last one hour for ages 5-8 and the girls' group, and 75 to 90 minutes for older groups. When you register, you pick one or two training days a week and your fee is worked out from your child's first session to the end of term. A DHS team uniform is AED 200 + VAT; the form asks whether your child needs a new one.
