About British Boxing Club
British Boxing Club is a boxing gym on 8th Street in Al Quoz that trains kids, teens and adults. Its Kids Boxing Academy is for children aged 6 to 14 and teaches the basics - stance, footwork and punches - through drills, fitness work and non-contact or light-contact sparring practice, with the club putting the emphasis on coordination, discipline and confidence. Older children can move on to the Teens/Amateur Boxing programme for ages 13 to 17, which adds sparring, defensive drills and strength and conditioning, and can lead to amateur competition. Kids classes run on weekday afternoons at 5pm from Monday to Thursday and at 10am on Saturday and Sunday, with teen classes at 5:30pm on weekdays and 11am on Sunday. The club offers a free trial for both junior programmes, and youth and junior memberships come with unlimited classes; prices are not listed, so ask the club. It holds a 4.4 rating on Google from 33 reviews.
The activity
Boxing, explained
Boxing for children is mostly about technique and fitness rather than fighting. A junior class usually starts with a warm-up and skipping, then moves on to stance, footwork and the basic punches, drilled on bags and on pads held by a coach, and finishes with conditioning games. Contact is kept light or left out entirely for younger children. Kids come away with better coordination, balance and stamina, and the one-to-one attention of pad work builds focus and confidence. It suits children with plenty of energy who like a structured class where they can see their own progress week by week.
Who it's for
Children aged 6-14 in the Kids Boxing Academy, and teens aged 13-17 in the Teens/Amateur Boxing programme. No prior boxing experience is needed. Ask the club whether boys and girls train together.
What to expect
A Kids Boxing Academy class covers stance, footwork and punching technique, fun coordination and agility drills, fitness exercises and safe sparring practice that is non-contact or light contact. The club says no experience is needed. For a first class, bring comfortable workout clothes and a water bottle, plus boxing gloves if you have them - if not, the club can provide equipment for beginners. Both junior programmes offer a free trial: call or WhatsApp +971 52 554 1122 to book one. Ask the club how long each class lasts and how many children are in a group.
