About Bedia Pottery
Bedia Pottery is a pottery studio in a warehouse on Al Khayat Avenue in Al Quoz that runs dedicated kids' sessions alongside its adult classes. Children aged 3 and up can join handbuilding workshops such as the Pinch Pot Workshop, while the Kids' Wheel & Clay Workshop is for ages 6+ and the Cereal Bowl Workshop for ages 4-13. Kids' workshops last 90 minutes and cost AED 169-219 depending on the clay: air-dry pieces go home the same day, while terracotta and ceramic pieces are fired and collected later. There is also a Mom/Dad & Kid Handbuilding Workshop for a parent and child to make something together. Clay, tools and aprons are provided, so kids turn up empty-handed. The studio also hosts kids' birthday parties at AED 179 per child for a minimum of 12 children. It is rated 5.0 on Google from 871 reviews, and there is free parking.
The activity
Pottery, explained
Pottery lets kids shape clay by hand or on a wheel, then see it air-dried or kiln-fired into something they made themselves. Handbuilding (pinching, coiling, slabbing) suits younger beginners, while the wheel needs a bit more patience and hand control, so studios usually let younger children start with handbuilding and move to the wheel a little later. Along the way kids build fine motor control, patience and concentration, and get a tactile, screen-free session making pinch pots, bowls or mugs to take home. Fired pieces take a few weeks to finish, so part of the fun is coming back to collect them.
Who it's for
Handbuilding workshops (Pinch Pot, Slabbing, Keepsakes, Mom/Dad & Kid) are for ages 3 and above. The Kids' Wheel & Clay Workshop is for ages 6+, and the Cereal Bowl Workshop is for ages 4-13. Birthday parties are for ages 3-13 with handbuilding, or 4-13 if you choose the wheel. No previous experience is needed.
What to expect
Kids' workshops run for 90 minutes, with slots at 10:30am, 2pm and 4pm. Each child gets 400g of clay, plus tools and a Bedia apron; the studio says to "just come with a heart full of enthusiasm." In the Pinch Pot Workshop children shape and mould clay with their fingers; the Wheel & Clay Workshop mixes the pottery wheel with handbuilding. What happens next depends on the clay: air-dry pieces go home the same day (the Pinch Pot Workshop adds an acrylic paint set), terracotta takes 1-2 weeks, and ceramic pieces are fired, painted at a return visit and ready in a few weeks. There is no home delivery, so plan to collect. Trial class: ask the provider.
