About Alliance Française

Alliance Française Dubai, a non-profit teaching French in the city since 1982, runs two centres: Dubai Knowledge Park and Oud Metha. Both centres host group classes, though course availability varies by location, so check which age groups run at the centre you pick this term. The kids' programme is grouped by age: Les Pitchounes, a weekly class for 2-3 year olds and their parent; Young Children (3-6); Children (7-10); Teenagers (11-15); and Native Speakers classes for children who already speak French, split into Les petits francophones (4-5), Les primaires francophones (6-10) and Les ados francophones (11-16). Courses follow the Common European Framework levels from A1.1 to B2, and children can sit the DELF Prim or DELF Junior exams. A group needs at least four students to run, and classes are capped at 8 to 12 depending on the course.

The activity

Language Classes, explained

French classes for children build vocabulary, pronunciation and conversation skills through age-appropriate games, songs and structured lessons in small groups. The youngest learners usually start with playful, spoken French before moving on to reading and writing as they get older, while children who already speak French at home can join classes that keep their reading, writing and grammar on track. Many courses follow the Common European Framework levels (A1, A2, B1, B2), so progress is measurable, and children can sit recognised exams such as the DELF Prim or DELF Junior along the way.

Who it's for

Toddlers aged 2-3 with a parent (Les Pitchounes), Young Children 3-6, Children 7-10, Teenagers 11-15, and Native Speakers classes for French-speaking children aged 4-16 (Les petits francophones 4-5, Les primaires francophones 6-10, Les ados francophones 11-16). Complete beginners and children with some French are both catered for.

What to expect

Complete beginners can register directly. Children with some French take a placement test first; there is a fee, deducted from tuition once you enrol, and the result is valid for six months. Native Speakers families book a level test online, the child takes it, then you meet the teacher. Late joiners are accepted up to two missed classes. Les Pitchounes is a weekly class where toddlers learn alongside a parent. Lesson length, weekly frequency, class times and term fees aren't published, so ask the centre you pick.
